MISTLEY Marauders played a friendly against Clacton.
Both sides fielded a mixture of first and second-team players.
As the league games have ended too early – a matter to be addressed with the Eastern Counties League – Mistley were only too happy to welcome the Seasiders to Furze Hill.
James Wilbraham, a previous president of Mistley, agreed to referee the match and his gesture was well-received.
Both teams played well, but the Marauders had the edge, winning 13-0 with a try from Charlie Barrett.
Despite suffering injury earlier in the season, Barrett has really shown his prowess as the giant of the squad, albeit still only 17.
He was assisted by his elder brother Freddie Barrett, who has recently joined and has already proved his worth as a newcomer.
One conversion and two penalties were kicked by Marauders captain Jack Tompkins, who improves with every game.
In addition, there were exceptional performances from Jess Fearn and Jason Cooledge.
Fearn and Freddie Barrett were joint men-of-the-match.
That evening a quiz night was held in the Anchor and over £300 was raised for the new clubhouse fund.
Thanks were expressed to all those who attended, especially organiser Debbie Betts.
This weekend, Mistley are looking to play a friendly, but as yet nothing has been arranged.
On April 30, the annual Presidents’ Day game takes place. Kick-off will be at 2pm at Furze Hill.
