MORE than 100 paintings of Dovercourt and the surrounding areas by a Dutch artist have made thousands of Euros at auction.
Piet Mulder bought a studio in Marine Parade in 1975, which saw him become inspired by the stunning view of the coastline and the naval docks to create works with more colour and sometimes incorporating crayons and photo collages.
He spent more than 20 years in the area before his death in 2001 and had previously been employed as a structural steel design engineer before focusing wholly on painting.
The works went under the hammer in Arnhem in the Netherlands last week along with other paintings from his vast collection.
Mr Mulder’s son, Reinjan, created a bilingual illustrated book on the artist’s time in Dovercourt entitled The Sea is a Bore which is now available from Quirky Old Stuff on Market Street in Harwich.
“The book is available now and I hope someone from Harwich has bought some artwork at the auction so you can see the real stuff very soon,” said Reinjan.
