A VILLAGE post office will soon be open seven days a week with longer opening hours and a new postmaster.
Postmaster Carlo Guglielmi cashed up the office in Waldegrave Way, Lawford, for a final time last week after 36 years working there.
The post office will be closing for refurbishment on Tuesday, August 21 at 5.30pm and will reopen on Friday, September 7 at 1pm under new management and opening hours.
Its new opening hours will be Monday to Saturday from 6am to 9pm and Sunday from 6am to 7pm.
This will be an extra 56 hours of service a month including Saturday and Sunday afternoons and with earlier opening and much later closing.
Manningtree Post Office and Mistley Post Office will be the closest alternative branches to use until it reopens.
Anthony Bayley, Post Office area network change manager, said: “We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.
The shop will be open throughout the closure of the post office.
