A HUNGER charity has launched a national fundraising campaign to raise cash to supply food parcels to exhausted NHS key workers who are on the frontline saving lives.

The campaign - called Raise a Bake - was set up by World Food Aid, based in Parkeston, and it has already been backed by celebrity chefs and online influencers.

Chinese TV chef Ching He-Huang and beauty blogger Sophie Hannah are among those to have already pledged their support.

Harry Dulai, World Food Aid founder and managing director of Surya Foods, in Parkeston, said: “Many of us feel pretty helpless at the moment.

“ A great percentage of the nation is furloughed, while many key workers are actually working longer hours to get us through these challenging days.

“This campaign asks very little of us but has the capacity to give a fantastic boost to tired NHS staff working day and night.

“Staff who have little time to think about how and when they can shop - at a time when nutrition is vital to their health and wellbeing.

“It is also a fun way to pass a few hours with the kids and feel like you are contributing just a little to help those who are sacrificing and risking so much to help us.”

He added: “The campaign also reinforces the Government messaging of the importance and power of simply staying home. Stay in, bake in and save lives.”

The charity will be putting all the funds raised into creating uplifting food parcels featuring essentials like milk, pasta, rice, tea and vitamins for NHS staff.

World Food Aid was launched in 2011 and has been helping improve the lives of millions across the globe affected by hunger.

It funds projects ranging from soup kitchens and school holiday meals to helping extreme poverty-stricken communities in countries like India and Peru.
