A FAST-GROWING bird rescue centre has thanked the public for its support.
Amy Lee, 28, of Langley Close, Harwich, founded Wonderful Wings rescue last October and was running it alone for seven months until Charlie Fenner, 36, joined in May.
Both Mel Gray, 33, and Karen Usher, 43, then joined the team in June to give a helping hand.
The centre relies solely on donations from the public or team member’s own cash.
After asking for support for a much-needed larger aviary, the team has been overwhelmed by the generosity of businesses.
Volunteer Charlie Fenner, 36, said the group had an aviary but it was too small and filling up quickly.
She said: “This means we will soon have to turn animals in need away.
“We started out appeal on Tuesday and by the end of the day we were inundated by donations.
“All the timber we needed was given to us by Anglian Timber in Wix.
“Colchester’s Travis Perkins were able to donate four rolls of roofing felt while Vince Smith and Mole Country Stores Colchester kindly donated two rolls of galvanised mesh.
“A local store who asked not to be named donated all the hardware such as hinges and locks and another roll of roofing felt.
“We have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of all donors and we can’t thank them enough.”
The team is still in need of galvanised mesh to complete the project so if anyone would like to help they can email wonderfulwingsharwich@gmail.com.
