A HARWICH based wind farm company have provided a welcome boost to nearby businesses by awarding two contracts to firms based on the east coast.
Galloper Wind Farm are based at Harwich International Port, with their offshore turbines about 16 miles out at sea.
Benefitting, family business Turner Iceni were awarded the contract for crew transfer vessel operations, providing 24/7 support in the form of vessels and crew.
Marvan’s Tree and Landscaping Services also won a contract to provide their services at the wind farm’s operations and maintenance facility at the port.
The contracts will help boost the local economy, with Marvan’s based in Ramsey and Turner Iceni’s crew transfer vessel division, of about 75 employees, situated in Lowestoft.
As a result of the award, Turner Iceni have created three brand new full-time job roles to support the initial two-year contract. Galloper general manager Guy Middleton said: “The development, construction and ongoing operation of projects such as Galloper bring significant benefits to the UK energy infrastructure and economy, helping to grow the local supply chain and create jobs.”
While Danny Marvan, director of the landscaping service, added: “While we are a relatively small company, we’re ambitious and dedicated to growing our business. “Winning our first contract working for the renewables sector is a great achievement.
“The majority of our employees are from Essex and, similar to the team at Galloper Wind Farm, we also place a great emphasis on working with schools and undertaking STEM activities in the local area. “These contracts really can create a positive ripple effect among the communities they’re placed in.”
