WITH spring now upon us, warmer weather awaits us all.

Some are keener than others when it comes to sunbathing, and one special visitor to Harwich certainly took the first opportunity it got.

This seal, snapped on the spit, basked in the sunlight as it beamed down over the seafront.

Photographer Lynn Sampson, who often wanders into Harwich after work, was surprised to see the seal chilling so up close and personal.

She said: “The seal was really friendly and seemed completely unfazed by passers-by.

“It seemed to be enjoying the sunset as much as I was.”

Earlier this month, the RSPCA issued guidance on what to do if you see a seal alone as more will begin to pop up on the foreshore during spring.

It is not uncommon to see them alone, nor is it bad news for the mammal, and they should be left alone.

The charity also advises onlookers not to get too close as while they look friendly, they can give a nasty bite.

This will often become infected by the bacteria which live in a seal’s mouth.
