AN interactive map has revealed the most searched for celebrities from north Essex.

The map links place names with their most searched for public figure on Wikipedia.

It includes a wide-reaching spectrum of celebrities, and counts 18th-century poets and wrestling champions among its pinpoints. The link between the location and the celebrity ranges from their place of birth, their current home or a connection.

Produced by The Pudding, an online publication which debates culture in visual essays, the map covers villages, towns and cities across the UK.

One for the history buffs, Christopher Jones was the most searched for person in Harwich. The famous captain led the famous voyage of the Mayflower to the US 400 years ago and his house can still be visited in Old Harwich, in King’s Head Street.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, world-renowned artist John Constable is the most searched for person linked with Dedham - it is called Constable Country after all.

His most famous painting, The Hay Wain, depicts a rural scene by Flatford Mill on the River Stour between Suffolk and Essex.

For East Bergholt, the only child of Sir Winston Churchill, Randolph, stands out as the most searched for figure.

Randolph Churchill was a journalist and Conservative MP for Preston from 1940-45. He purchased the stunning, Grade II listed Stour House in the village and made it his home.

And Brantham’s most popular individual is Humphrey Wingfield, who was a custos rotulorum in the village during the early 1500s.
