A TOWN’s very own Private Pike and Captain Mainwaring will be going on parade at an historic fort at a fun-filled event.
Reenactors Simon Todd and Grant Harris will be bringing a World War II flavour to Harwich as they perform at the Redoubt Fort on Sunday.
The duo proved popular when they entertained visitors with the WWII style drills on previous occasions and they will be now be returning to parade on the gun deck of the Fort in full uniform.
Leader of the Redoubt Fort team of volunteers, Dan Beck, said the pair are a “pleasure” to watch.
“With the siren blaring its accompaniment, Simon and Grant have a wide range of very realistic World War II style drills and in the setting of the historic Redoubt Fort they provide great entertainment and are a very popular attraction,” he said.
The Harwich Society’s Redoubt Fort volunteers have stated they are disappointed the pandemic has not ended soon enough to allow the Fort’s annual open day to take place, but are delighted Simon and Grant will be providing entertainment by going through their routines and interacting with visitors throughout the day.
“They are great fun to watch and Simon and Grant get as much pleasure from performing their routines as the visitors get from watching them,” added Mr Beck.
“With its history, wide range of exhibits and spectacular views over Harwich and its harbour, the Redoubt is always a great place to visit. On Bank Holiday Sunday our very own version of Dad’s Army will make it even more so.”
The Redoubt Fort is open to the public Thursday to Sunday 10AM-4PM until the end of September and then on Sundays until May 2022.
