A SPECIAL beach school week educated children on important coastal-based topics.
Harwich Haven Authority partnered with the town’s resident beach cleaning resident Libby Scarfe, founder of Seaside Explorers, to deliver a free, week-long itinerary of beach school sessions.
The event saw 200 children, aged between three and 12, and their families in attendance across the week.
The two-hour sessions focused on two key themes, the harm plastic is having on our oceans, seas and rivers and the big ships which arrive each day to the Haven ports.
Almost 350 free hot lunches were also provided for all children and their accompanying parent or guardian, which was in support of the national Holiday Hunger scheme.
They then embarked on a learning journey hearing more about the area’s environment and gaining an understanding about how and why the Haven is such an important UK trade gateway.
Fiona Brunning, from Harwich Haven Authority, said: “We have received positive feedback about the value of this and we hope it will be a regular event.”
