SHANTY festival organisers are hosting a special Christmas fundraising murder mystery event in Harwich.

Harwich International Shanty Festival's murder mystery will see clues hidden around the historic maritime town on December 28.

The event, which will be suitable for all the family, will see participants hunt for which well known Harwich character committed the dastardly crime, what the method was and near which distinctive landmark it took place.

Teams of amateur sleuths will need to attend at the Alma Inn between 12noon and 1pm before they set off around the town to solve this mystery.

A spokesman said: "When you find the three correct clues you should take your answers straight to the adjudicators at the Alma.

"Please replace all clues for the next unsuspecting sleuth.

"As well as the top prize of a litre of rum, there are also spot prizes for children and adults.

"To find the clues you will need the What 3 Words app on your phone or mobile device.

"Full details and information about how to download this and an explanation of how it works can be found on our website, so don’t be put off if you are not familiar with this.

"We’ll give you a list of What 3 Words locations and you need to check them in any order you wish.

"Return to the Alma immediately if you have found the winning clue to claim your top prize of a litre of rum.

"This suspenseful event replaces the usual treasure hunt, which has been rescheduled for April."

Entry is £5 per adult and £10 per family (maximum 2 adults and four children per family) and tickets can be purchased on the day, or in advance at harwichshantyfestival.co.uk/xmas2021.

Next year's Harwich International Shanty Festival will take place from October 7 to October 9.
