RELATIVES of a beloved lifeboat crew member are running a marathon between two RNLI stations in his memory.

John Teatheredge, second coxswain of the Harwich Lifeboat Station, died in December 2020 aged 63.

Harry and Lil, John’s grandson and stepdaughter respectively are running from Walton RNLI station to Harwich RNLI on Saturday, February 26.

The pair have been training for the past few months whilst fundraising for the John Teatheredge memorial fund.

In a statement Harry and Lil said: “No matter the time of day John would drop everything, leaving his family to help complete strangers in distress.

“John to us, was a wonderful stepfather and grandfather, and we hope to raise as much money as we can in his name and make him very proud.”

After volunteering for Harwich RNLI in 1977 at 17 years old John went on the become second coxswain in 2003 and saved 427 lives and countless on the sea.

John dedicated 44 of his 63 years to the charity, until his untimely death on Boxing Day 2020 due to complications after surgery.
