AN INNER wheel club is looking for sponsors to support a fundraising walk supporting families and individuals affected by strokes.
The Inner Wheel Club of Harwich and Dovercourt is taking part in a sponsored walk to raise funds for the Stroke Association on Saturday, April 9.
The Stroke Association was the charity chosen by Betty Roberts, association president of Inner Wheel clubs across UK and Ireland.
Beryl Whittingham, Inner Wheel Club of Harwich and Dovercourt president said: “Betty chose the stroke association as the charity all clubs would support in 2021 through fundraising.
“We’ve been raising money for the past year through collection boxes but because of Covid we had to postpone our walk until now.”
Mayor and Mayoress Ivan and Jo Henderson will accompany the club on its walk.
The club will walk from the Leading Lights to Harwich and some members will be positioned outside The Pier Hotel to raise awareness for the Stroke Association and the support it offers.
Beryl added: “I believe Betty has personal experiences with strokes in terms of friends and relatives.
“I have experiences through my father-in-law and sister, these days a lot of people know someone who’s had a stroke.
“We feel it does not get enough publicity and would like to change that.”
The club recently celebrated its 60th anniversary after two years of postponements.
