A COMMUNITY bake sale has turned out to be a sweet success after raising hundreds of pounds for a much-loved music event.
The Cake ‘n’ Shanty has collected more than £900 for the Harwich International Shanty Festival which will take place this autumn.
A mouth-watering selection of cakes was available for everyone who has a sweet tooth, with visitors also thrilled to enjoy tea and coffee.
Throughout the day, singers from the Harwich Shanty Crew and Black Deep Shanty Crew were lifting up the spirits together with impromptu guest soloists and local folk musicians.
Residents could also enjoy a merchandise stall which featured the new 2022 T-shirts, badges and keyrings designed by local artist and shanty singer Len Smith.
A spokesman for the Harwich International Shanty Festival added: “A raffle was held and the RNLI joined us with a stall selling their own merchandise.
“Over £900 was raised which will go towards the cost of the 2022 festival to be held from October 7 to 9.”
The festival gives residents the chance to enjoy a number of family activities, including concerts, sing-a-round sessions, workshops, illustrated talks, and maritime crafts.
