A LEAP of faith during lockdown has seen a resident live out his dreams by starting a new kayak and paddleboard business.
Steve Bilton, of Stanway, has loved kayaking his whole life and always wanted to make a living out of it.
The opportunity did not arise until the pandemic hit, allowing him time to think and make the decision to launch his business.
Steve said: “I started my business Steve’s Kayak and Paddleboard Adventures in 2021 and I’ve expanded quite a lot since then.
“Obviously there are challenges around starting a new business, but an opportunity arose near the Boathouse in Dedham.
“I’d like to help people get out on the water more as opposed to staying indoors because we’ve done that for two years.”
Steve has rented the land in Dedham for three months to see whether he is able to make true living out of his passion.
He offers more than 25 kayaks and paddleboards including single kayaks, double kayaks, paddleboards and a newly purchased mega board.
The River Stour means Steve’s business attracts experienced users and visitors alike
Steve added: “Last Sunday was packed in Dedham and most weekends are really busy.
“People bring a lot of their own equipment, but I offer them the chance to take their friends to the water on a whim, they can quickly rent a kayak or board and set off.”
