TWO mums have donated life-saving defibrillators to a school and nursery after completing a half marathon to raise funds for the devices.
Emma Edwards and Amy Hawkins ran a half-marathon earlier this year to raise funds for defibrillators for All Saints School and Noah’s Nursery in Harwich.
Jude Edwards, Emma’s youngest son, was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome.
After undergoing months of hospital treatments to save his life, Jude has recovered and is now a very happy and energetic three-year-old.
Emma said: “Jude was born with half a heart and underwent open heart surgery on June 7.
"He should be fine until he’s an adult but will need minor operations in the coming years.
“When he was born we were rushed to Royal Brompton Hospital a day after his birth and ended up spending six months there.
“These defibrillators are so important and I was shocked to see that quite a few nurseries and schools didn’t have this vital piece of life-saving equipment.
“As soon as I heard there wasn’t one at Noah’s Nursery I was keen to raise money.
"Luckily, we raised enough for All Saints as well.”
