RUGBY club members have smashed their fundraising target as part of a bid to raise cash for their new clubhouse.
Six members of Mistley Rugby Club members took part in a half-marathon on Saturday, November 5, as the club begins work on the second phase of its new clubhouse.
The group walked from Harwich to Mistley and raised £2,180, beating its £2,000 target.
It's final figure now stands at £3,293 for all funds raised.
Willy Meston, former club president, took part in the walk.
He said: “It all went well and we all did as much as we could. We completed it in about five hours as we walked due to our age and health.
“Stage one of the new clubhouse was completed with the help of kind donations from different people.
“It was completed with help from club members who have applicable skills, one of our lads is a roofer for example.”
The first stage saw the implementation of a changing room with showers, a referee room, a bar and kitchen and a social area.
The second phase will involve an extension of the social area to the club to host more events.
