FIRST aiders at a rugby club attended an important course to make sure they were up to date with knowledge of the correct protocols regarding head injuries.
The course took place at Mistley Rugby Club’s clubhouse on Saturday, November 12, and was led by qualified paramedic Paul Lewis.
Leaders at the Rugby Football Union (RFU) have emphasised the need for every first aid worker at all levels of rugby to know the correct protocols for injuries.
Trevor Amoss, first aider at Mistley Rugby Club, attended the course.
He said: “Paul trains paramedics so as far as I’m concerned it was perfect for him to lead the course.
“As well as my work with the rugby club I am a community first responder in the area with more than 31 years of experience at St John’s ambulance.
“We cover the games for seniors and juniors, with new laws on head injuries you have to be very precise and adamant with players.
“For me, first aid wise I offer guidance to the other team members. It’s important to know that you must have a 19-day break from all sports if you’ve had a head injury.”
The session was a refresher for Trevor but newer members learned about CPR, basic life support, dealing with fractures and cuts as well as what team first aiders are allowed to do.
