PRIMARY school pupils got the chance to think about their futures during a school’s careers week.
Spring Meadow Primary School and School House Nursery in Proud Farm Drive, Dovercourt, hosted the special event, which saw professionals from a variety of jobs visit.
It included wind farm workers, firefighters, NHS first responders, hairdressers and dance instructors.
During the week, children took part in fun activities aimed at raising aspirations, increasing awareness of careers and generating excitement about their future paths.
Claire Pallett, deputy headteacher at the school, said: “The week was an overwhelming success, our children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to immerse themselves in the discussions, asking thoughtful questions and exploring their own hopes and dreams for the future.
“We wish to extend our immense thanks to all those who gave up their time to volunteer to support this amazing event.
“The feedback from everyone has been incredible, we now plan to make the week a regular fixture in our school calendar.”
Volunteers from different industries led a series of workshops, discussions and interactive presentations about their employment.
This gave the pupils a chance to immerse themselves in the world of work while learning about different careers and gaining an insight into the skills required for each job.
Professionals from health, sport and industry also joined the event, as well as representatives from businesses.
Professionals gave a look into their own careers and the role of their employers or how they had become successful at becoming entrepreneurs and running their own businesses.
This included hearing more about future routes of study and opportunities to achieve qualifications.
Research continued in classrooms with the children investigating the careers of school staff as well.
A spokeswoman for the school added: “It was great to celebrate an incredible and inspirational week for the children and once again we’d like to thank all the local businesses for their support.”
