A SENIORS club kicked off its coronation celebrations early with a tea party to commemorate the upcoming momentous event.
Great Oakley Oakstones hosted the successful coronation tea party on Wednesday, May 3, in Great Oakley Village Hall.
More than 55 seniors attended the event and sat down to enjoy treats made by committee members.
Chris Thompson, Great Oakley Oakstones chairman, said: “A celebratory punch was served with a toast to the King and entertainment was provided by George Pellas and Snakey Sue.
“Members were asked to make their own crown and showed how talented they all were, with some lovely prizes, followed by a large raffle.”
Great Oakley Oakstones was founded in 1959 and is a club for over-fifties, meeting on the first Wednesday of each month in Great Oakley Village Hall at 2pm.
Members come from Little Oakley, Stones Green, Dovercourt, as well as Great Oakley.
In addition to seasonal events like coronation tea parties, the club hosts afternoon activities including talks, musical events, quizzes, bingo and special lunches.
A staple of the club is its annual cribbage tournament in the village hall, which has been running for 50 years.
Winners of the tournament are awarded the Great Oakley Rose Bowl.
