VILLAGERS are set to revive a quirky tradition as they race around Mistley with prams.
The Mistley Pram Race was a staple of the village in the 1970s and 1980s but was called off as Mistley became busier for health and safety reasons.
Charlotte Howell, chairman of Mistley Parish Council, was motivated to bring back the fun with the help of Mistley Rugby Club.
She said: “To make it possible we’ve decided to take it to Furze Hill where we will have pop-up pubs the racers can use.
“The lovely woodland clearings of Furze Hill also gives us space to have other activities like a dog show, fancy dress competition with a royal theme for children, tombola, royal drawings and more.
“Talented band Keystone will perform from 6pm onwards to close out the day.”
The pram race will involve teams of two made up of a person dressed as a baby in a pram with their partner dressed as a parent pushing them around.
Prams can be anything with four wheels as long as they are not motorised.
Pop-up pubs will also be available for spectators as well as food vendor vans.
The Mistley Pram Race will take place on Monday, May 29, with races starting at 3pm.
