SHANTY-LOVERS struck the right note as they raised cash for this year's popular festival while devouring tasty treats.
The Harwich International Shanty Festival held its third Cake ‘n’ Shanty event on Sunday.
Sea shanties are traditional folk songs that were used to help sailors work aboard large vessels.
The latest event included a selection of homemade cakes for sale.
Meanwhile, guests enjoyed music from Harwich Shanty Crew, Black Deep Shanty Crew, Rattlin’ Winches and some impromptu guest soloists and local folk musicians.
The merchandise stall featured the new 2023 t-shirts and badges, which were designed by local artist and shanty singer Len Smith.
Other highlights of the day included the new shanty songbook being on sale, and a fundraising raffle.
Other organisations also took part in the day’s events, including the RNLI which was in attendance selling its own merchandise at a stall.
In the end, more than £750 was raised from the third Cake ‘n’ Shanty event.
This money will help to cover the cost of the next festival, which will be held from October 13 to 15.
