A CHARITY is urging people to sign up for a huge charity event which sees thousands of bikers wind their way to Harwich.
The Essex and Herts Air Ambulance’s annual Motorcycle Run and Harwich Family Fun Day takes place on September 10.
Bikers joining the event will partake in a 60 mile long journey that starts at Essex Herts Air Ambulance's base, on North Weald Airfield, at 10am.
The convoy of riders will be led by Radio Essex's Martin Day and finish at The Quay in Harwich.
Upon arrival Martin will join his fellow presenter Paul Jason to co-host the free Family Fun Day on the Green.
Last year, EHAAT attended more than 2,500 missions around Essex, each costing £2,200.
These lifesaving services would not be possible without its donors or events such as the motorcycle run.
Emma Barker, Head of Income Generation at EHAAT, said: “This year we are celebrating 25 years of running our free life-saving emergency medical service, delivering advanced clinical care usually seen only in the hospital emergency department.
“But with no National Lottery funding and with very limited government support, it is the incredible donations that we receive from our supporters in our local community that keeps us flying.
“The past 25 years is not our achievement – it is the achievement of the people of Essex and Hertfordshire, and we are grateful to you all.”
This year’s event features a bonus for anyone who signs up online to take part in the event before Friday September 1.
Those signing up will be put in a draw with great donated prizes, including four weekend tickets to the Brands Hatch British Superbike Championship Showdown.
Other prizes include a £100 voucher for the motorcycle event photographer and official MCR Harwich photographer, Get A Pic, and a £100 voucher for the ART Rider Gear shop in Laindon, Essex.
The prizes don't stop here, as Emma added: “And for the first time this year, I am delighted to announce that we are giving a prize to the biggest fundraiser for the event.
"Donated by Flight426, one lucky person will be given a unique opportunity, as well as the thrill of a lifetime, a 30 minute flight for two in a Westland Wasp, a 1960’s Royal Navy Anti-submarine helicopter.”
The fun day in Harwich has something for everyone with games, live music, exhibitors, stalls, and the Tendring-based band, The Vicounts, who will also be performing.
With hundreds of motorcyclists pre-booked into the event, other bikers are encouraged to also pre-book so as to not be disappointed.
