A MAN has denied fraudulent evasion of duty after appearing in court.
Maciej Wegrzynowski, of Bydgoszcz, Poland, appeared at Chelmsford Crown Court on Tuesday for a trial preparation hearing.
The 58-year-old stands accused of trying to bring ten million cigarettes – valued at £5 million – into the UK without paying duty, having entered the country at the international port of Harwich on June 23.
One week later, Wegrzynowski was arrested, and in a pre-prepared statement, denied all involvement.
Wegrzynowski’s trial will be opened on December 11 at the same court.
