A HISTORIC fort in Harwich is set to host a ghost hunt later this month, after previous expeditions resulted in paranormal activity being caught on camera.
The spooky sightings took place in the iconic Redoubt Fort, off Harwich's Main Road, which has had its fair share of paranormal stories in the past.
Built to protect Harwich Port against the threat of Napoleonic Invasion by French prisoners of war, the large fort is full of history and eerie activity.
Tales of ghostly apparitions in windows, unexplained footsteps clattering down hallways and unseen hands touching visitors have been reported time and time again.
One of the most famous ghosts who patrols the fort's floors is the Headless Soldier.
As the story goes, the Headless Soldier was killed in 1972, horrifically decapitated by a cable that was attached to a 12-tonne cannon before it snapped under its heavy strain.
Ever since, he has been seen and heard floating around the fort, his head in his hands.
On September 16, guests are invited to join ghost-hunters and mediums on an eight hour expedition, starting at 8pm and ending at 2am, throughout the fort's most haunted areas.
Plenty of ghost hunting equipment will be made available to use during Redoubt Fort's hunt for the supernatural.
Free time to explore the fort alone and without a guide will also be possible for any brave attendees.
Tea, coffee and cakes will also be given to guests during the breaks.
