A COMMUNITY solar energy scheme could see electricity generated and supplied to households in Tendring at a cheaper price if funding is secured.
The Practical Actions for Climate and the Environment group is looking to launch its Community Solar Energy Scheme for Manningtree, Mistley and Lawford
Members are working with Essex County Council, South East New Energy and Power Circle Projects Ltd.
According to PACE, 200 households in the area have already expressed interest in the scheme, but more needed to make their interest known in order for the project to go ahead.
John Hall, chairman of PACE, said: “We need interest from about 300 households to secure the funding for the scheme.
“Local householders will benefit from reduced costs – about 20 per cent reduction in capital costs of solar panels and battery, which will cost about £6,200 depending on a survey of roof space.
“We understand not everyone can afford that so there is a second option where the Scheme pays for the solar panels and you pay-back as you generate electricity.
“Either way the saving on your electricity bills will on average be between £800 and £1200 per year."
The scheme is one of just five in Essex where locally generated electricity can be used with reduced cost to the household.
In addition to reducing costs, it is hoped the scheme will lead to lower carbon emissions being produced within the district.
Mistley Village Hall will host a public meeting about the scheme on Thursday, September 21, starting at 7.30pm.
There will also be Q&A session.
