A NEW community café is opening in Harwich this weekend – just in time for a motorcycle rally.
Amy Reynolds and Jade Gosling were volunteer cooks in the Parks and Community kitchen for about six years.
They soon realised there was a need for vulnerable members of the community, such as the elderly, to have hot, homecooked meals.
The pair have now teamed up to establish Food for Thought Catering and Events.
Amy said: “We started doing homecooked delivery meals in January. It got quite busy quickly.
“We do have a charitable element. We will give someone a hot meal whether they can afford it or not.”
At present, the team currently includes Amy, Jade and two volunteers – kitchen assistant Adam and delivery driver Leigh.
Amy added: “We currently deliver three days a week but as of next week, we’ll be delivering five days a week.
“We’re opening our café on Sunday, our grand opening as a café as such, to specifically cater for the motorcycle rally and for the motorcyclists themselves.
“They’ve got a secluded car park so they can park safely.
“There’s always a big motorcycle rally in old Harwich on Sunday. All the public come to look at the bikes.
"It’s a fundraiser for Essex Air Ambulance - we’re going to have pots out collecting.”
