WORK on a multi-million pound regeneration project in Dovercourt is set for another milestone this week, as council bosses back plans to progress the scheme to seek planning permission.
Earlier this summer, Tendring Council’s cabinet agreed to sign agreements with the Government to accept £6.65million for a project in Dovercourt, and draw down £250,000 from its own £2.1million match-funding budget to begin preparation works.
The £9million scheme in Dovercourt, which has money from the government’s Capital Regeneration Projects fund as well as Tendring Council and Essex County Council consists of three smaller projects.
These include the Kingsway Improvements scheme, which will see improvements to the street scene in and around the town centre, the Homes in Dovercourt scheme, which will see - demolition of Milton Road car park and building of new homes, and the Learning and Library Project to refurbish the town’s library to bring Adult Community Learning back into the town centre.
On Friday, the council’s cabinet is set to rubber-stamp plans to endorse a revised programme to deliver the Homes for Dovercourt scheme, which will see the council managing these projects directly and not Essex County Council led partners.
The decision will allocate up to £1.9million from the council’s remaining Levelling Up Fund Budget of £2million to procure professional services to deliver the projects - alongside regeneration projects in Clacton - through to planning submission.
