DIFFERENT generations came together to mark Remembrance Sunday by laying a poppy wreath from Ramsey and Parkeston Parish Council at a new war memorial.
Council chairman Bill Davidson was joined by youngster Roxy Priestnall to lay the wreath.
Mr Davidson designed the war memorial alongside other members of the cemetery committee, including councillors Tanya Ferguson and Rob Passmore, and volunteer cemetery administrator Lin Keaton in collaboration with the stonemasons who made the memorial.
The inscription on the memorial reads “When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today”, and “At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them”.
In addition to the new war memorial, there have been other improvements to Parkeston cemetery, such as refurbishing the chapel, seed planting, maintenance and security by the committee and other councillors.
Mr Davidson said: “As chairman of the parish council, I am really proud of what we’ve achieved with this monument.
“As a parish council, we worked for two years to get this together.
“For our fallen heroes, I think it’s a fitting monument.
“It’s good for Parkeston to have their own memorial. It’s settled in nicely into Parkeston cemetery.”
