A ROAD has been closed and a person taken to hospital following a two-vehicle crash.

The A120 Wix Bypass has been shut both ways from Cansey Lane to Harwich Road.

Several emergency services vehicles rushed to the scene following the incident, with police closing the road, causing severe congestion in the area.

Essex Police confirmed it is in attendance and advised drivers to avoid the area.

A spokesman said: "We’re on the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the A120 close to Wix.

"The incident was reported to us shortly before 10.20am this morning, Monday, December 4.

"The road has been closed in both directions whilst emergency services continue to deal with the incident.

"Please avoid the area if you can. We will provide an update as soon as we practically can."

The East of England Ambulance Service confirmed two ambulances, two ambulance officer vehicles and the East Anglian Air Ambulance were called to the scene.

"Two patients - one with serious injuries - were transported by road ambulance to Colchester General Hospital", a spokesman said.
