PLANS have been submitted to transform part of a farm into holiday accommodation in Great Oakley.
Tendring Council’s planning committee has received an application to turn the Great Oakley Lodge in Harwich Road into a holiday destination with six units and parking.
The site is currently home to a Grade II listed farmhouse and barn, as well as an aircraft hangar building.
To host future guests, the farm is looking to have shepherd hut-like units with en suites and small kitchens, as well as running water and electricity.
To support its bid to the council, the application states: “There is a range of public benefits that could arise from the enabling of the development.
“For example, members of the public would be able to stay overnight in what feels like a remote location just a stone’s throw from the centre of the village.
“In terms of economic benefits, this would encourage spending in the local area at the community public house, local store and events venues with an increased opportunity for overnight stays following big celebrations.”
If approved, the holiday place would create employment for two full-time and two part-time members of staff to run the unit.
Tendring’s planning committee will have the final say.
Plans for a new community centre and 86 new homes were presented to the planning authority last year, showing great interest in the area.
The area's drive for a more diverse community has also been highlighted with plans for a mosque and community centre in nearby Dovercourt.
