HARWICH Town Council has committed to continue working with the Harwich Harbour Foot Ferry for the next three years.
With a unanimous vote, Harwich Town Council agreed to renew its partnership agreement at the cost of £1,000 a year, starting in April 2024.
Lisa Zemann who runs the ferry with her husband, said: “We are really grateful to Harwich Council and it helps us to continue offering a reliable connection to Shotley and Felixstowe.”
Lisa explained how the foot ferry service was founded in 1912, with Chris and Lisa taking over in 2015, adding: “The tiny bit we do get in funding is so necessary”.
The ferry is currently going under its annual winter maintenance and “spruce up” before the sunny season starts.
Cyclists on the National Cycle Route 51 from Colchester to Oxford use the ferry to travel from Harwich to Langford port.
While others can use the ferry to take part in seal watching tours when the ferry goes over to Hamford Water.
The ferry runs from April to October and funding will be reviewed again in three years.
