A FOOTBALL fan was rushed to hospital after a medical emergency which saw a match called off.
Under-23s sides from Harwich and Parkeston and Needham Market met on Tuesday night, but the match was abandoned during the first half after an ambulance was called to Harwich’s Royal Oak Stadium.
Bosses at Harwich and Parkeston Football Club said the match ended in a goalless draw after an ambulance was called 30 minutes into the game to treat a spectator in the crowd who had suffered a medical emergency.
A man was rushed to Colchester Hospital for treatment after an ambulance was called to the stadium in Main Road, the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed.
A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “One ambulance was sent to Harwich and Parkeston Football Club yesterday evening following reports of a man with a medical emergency.
“One man was transported to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and care.”
In a statement on social media, the club thanked physiotherapists from both sides and other volunteers for helping.
A later update said the spectator was discharged from hospital this morning “with a medical condition identified”.
Harwich will play Swaffham Town at the Royal Oak at 3pm on Saturday.
