A MAN from Great Oakley is taking on a half marathon after overcoming prostate cancer.
Andrew Deex revealed that, aged 42, at the end of 2022 he started to feel more lethargic than normal, putting off going to the doctors for a few weeks until his wife made him go.
In March 2023, Andrew found out from a biopsy that he did have prostate cancer choosing to remove his prostate in a successful operation.
Andrew is now running the London Landmarks half-marathon in April 2024 to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK and has organised a wine, cheese and quiz night as a way to raise more money.
More than 100 people are set to attend the event, which starts at 7pm tonight, at the Harwich and Dovercourt Rugby Club in Wick Lane, with more than 50 raffle prizes up for grabs.
Luke Mills, a friend of Andrew and Katie, explained that the raffle for the night had “gotten wild” and was especially grateful to local businesses, and added: “With 50 raffle prizes, it will be good fun and also a good way to spread awareness of Prostate Cancer UK”.
“It is also a celebration of Andrew who has been given the all clear now”.
The event will be hosted by Luke Mills with Lis Standen as the 'Quiz Mumma'.
