A LARGE cod made up of individual fabric scales will be the new public art project for the Harwich Festival of the Arts, with residents being asked to contribute.
A new public art project by Monique de Vlieger will feature a large colourful cod created of overlapping, individual scales made of fabric which are contributed from the public.
Colourful fabric and shiny decorations work best but please keep beads or hard materials away from the edges as all scales will be sewed together using a sewing machine.
By using the pattern provided, embellishments can be avoided on the ‘shaded area’ as this will not be shown when overlapped.
Overall, the project will look back on the time when there were more than 60 fishing boats in Harwich and hundreds of people employed in fishing for cod
Finished scales can be handed in at the Harwich Arts and Heritage Centre, weekdays between 10am and 4pmand on the first Saturday of the month between 10am and 1pm with the closing date being May 24.
While the Harwich Festival of Arts will be nine days of live music theatre, art and more starting on June 20 and ending on June 30.
