AN independent and award-winning filmmaker is fundraising for an anthology of short films that he plans to shoot in Harwich and Manningtree.
Anthony Longhurst of the independent film production company Longhurst and Putt said the Tales of the Underworld – a series of 12 short films which will link into a feature-length film – is part of the ‘Babysitters Universe’.
The universe’s first film, the low budget ‘Lucas and Albert’, was shot on location in Tendring and north Essex, including Harwich beach, and was released in 2019.
In 2021, Lucas and Albert won the 2021 National Film Awards ‘UK best feature film’ – beating the critically acclaimed 1917 by director Sam Mendes and other bigger budget films.
Anthony who has lived in the area since 1998, said the films he makes benefit the area through casting local talent, helping to boost the local economy, and by helping put the area on the map.
The new anthology plans to start shooting in April with "more locations in Manningtree’" being on the list of locations.
Harwich was also featured in the independent company’s previous films, including Harwich beach and the Beacon Hill fort.
