TWO Harwich teenagers were able to learn how to refurbish and build a laptop – with the pair being allowed to take their laptops home for their own personal use.
Harwich-based charity Teen Talk and the Harwich Haven Authority (HHA) created the event to give Jake and Ellis “hands-on” IT experience and to inspire them in their careers.
IT support engineer Sean Brattan, from the HHA, helped teach the pair how to refurbish and build a laptop.
Young person Ellis said: “We were made to feel very welcome by the staff at Harwich Haven Authority”.
“It was a really interesting and informative day and I’m looking forward to getting involved with more things with them in the future.”
While Jake said the laptop building workshop was “great fun” and that it was valuable to learn about what the HHA does.
Marcus Pearson, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) director of Harwich Haven Authority said: “As part of our Environment, Social and Governance strategy we have been working closely with different community groups, in and around Tendring, to increase the social value we are able to deliver through initiatives such as this.
“Reducing waste and supporting the circular economy is an important part of our focus and the refurbished laptops will now, we know, benefit both Jake and Ellis.
