RESIDENTS have raised concerns over parking after plans were submitted for eight flats in Dovercourt.
Tendring Council received a planning application to remodel four flats in Marine Parade, Dovercourt.
The plans will include creating another four units.
If approved, the development at the junction of Marine Parade and Lee Road would see a mixture of one-bed and two-bed accommodations.
The existing garage and yard space would be turned into living space and provide further space for the apartments.
In the planning statement, the applicant said: “As a total remodelling of an existing inefficient building the new accommodation will offer more cost-effective well insulated fully self-contained accommodation.”
Neighbours of the proposed site have voiced their concerns about the development, highlighting that the added flats will lead to more traffic and parking chaos, as the street does not offer a lot of space.
A concerned resident said: “Once again we find ourselves being constrained in very restricted parking availability by the building of more flats with no forward thinking.
“We have already had 14 parking spaces removed by the council with the addition of a red line parking restrictions on Lee Road Junction of Portland Avenue when all that we required was give way signs on the floor and poles.
“The new flats were completed just a couple of years ago opposite the proposed application, once again not enough allocation by the builders or planning department of off-road parking with more residents having to park further away.”
Another neighbour is worried about the loss of daylight and privacy under the new plans, as the added windows have a direct view on to his property.
He said: “The plans show more windows, and these will be much closer, directly overlooking the rear of my building and garden - much reducing both my privacy and wellbeing.
“The size of the property will negatively reduce both natural day and sunlight from my rear garden all year round and therefore cannot be supported.”
Tendring Council will have the final say in the matter.
