AN organ recital concert has been held to support the vital work of Harwich mayoress’ three charities.
The recital at St Nicholas' Church in Harwich on Sunday included pieces such as the contemporary Hymn Prelude on “Herzliebster Jesu” by Hew Morgan and the 17th century Toccata in d minor by D Buxtehude.
Peter Clayton first played the organ when he was a young chorister as Waltham Abbey, but it was only after his retirement from teaching that he switched from flute playing to concentre on playing the organ.
Peter has been an organist at St Mary Magdalen Church in Thorrington for 14 years and has been a freelance organist across churches in North East Essex and Suffolk.
Peter also regularly accompanies the Deanery Choir and plays the harpsichord with Julie Harmer on flute in the Wollaston Consort, last performing for the Harwich Festival in 2023.
The recital was in support of the Mayoress Anna Rendell-Knights’ charities including the Harwich Electric Palace Theatre, Harwich Connections for the 1912 Centre, and the Merchant Navy Association.
Anna said: “I have known Peter and his wife for many years and I admire his musicianship.
“I was so grateful for him to play for us."
