THE Harwich International Shanty Festival held its fourth Cake ‘n’ Shanty, which was a success, raising more than £600.
The event took place at the green on Kings Quay Street on Sunday, May 26, from 11am to 5pm.
About £630 was raised, which will go towards the cost of the 2024 festival to be held from October 11-13.
The entertainment was provided by shanty singers from the Harwich Shanty Crew, Black Deep Shanty Crew, and Rattlin’ Winches.
There were also some “impromptu guest soloists” as well as folk musicians who played other “jolly nautical tunes”.
A merchandise stall featured T- shirts, shanty song books, mugs and pens, and a raffle was held.
The RNLI, which is celebrating its 200th anniversary, also joined the event with a stall selling lifeboat merchandise.
