A PASSENGER jumped off the foot ferry while on a crossing between Felixstowe and Harwich on Sunday causing “a chain reaction” of events.
The man jumped off the Harwich Harbour Ferry while on a crossing between Felixstowe and Harwich just after 4pm.
The skipper and crew quickly initiated a man overboard manoeuvre which includes sending a VHF radio call to the Harwich Haven Authority.
This radio call causes a “chain reaction”, meaning the RNLI, Dover Coastguard, the Maritime and Coastguard agency, Essex Police and the ambulance service are contacted.
Christian Zemann, who bought the Harwich Harbour Ferry with wife Lucy in 2015, said: “I would like to send a big thank you to all these organisations in helping with this incident - especially to our skipper Sue and crew Ness for a professional man overboard manoeuvre.
"The passenger came the next day to the ferry and apologised for his action.”
The Harwich Harbour Ferry has run since 1912, recently secured three more years of funding and returned for its summer season on March 29 with a daily service running until October 31 - subject to weather conditions.
