COUNCILLORS have reacted to the “tragic” news after a man died in a collision between a motorcycle and a car on a road near Great Oakley.

Emergency services attended the B1414 Harwich Road on June 6 in the afternoon, after a crash near Great Oakley.

The East of England Ambulance Service were called to the scene at 12.37pm and Essex Police officers arrived at the scene at about 12.45pm.

An air ambulance, two ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle attended the scene.

The road was closed due the severity of the incident and the public were urged to avoid the area.

The motorcyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Oakleys and Wix ward councillor Mike Bush said: “It’s tragic news. The road has lots of bends on it, it is a busy road, all from the Oakleys to Beaumont and Thorpe.

"It’s yet another tragic loss of life.

“I want to pass my thoughts and condolences to the family.”

Essex Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward to help the investigation into the incident.

The force is also supporting the bereaved family of the motorcyclist.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “If you witnessed the collision or have any information or dash cam footage, please get in contact, and quote incident number 465 of June 6."

Daniel Land, the ward councillor for Thorpe, Beaumont and Great Holland, also sent his sympathy to the victim's family.

“I offer my humblest condolences - any accident ending in this nature is a tragedy," he said.

“It’s absolutely tragic and my deepest sympathies to the family affected.”

The road was reopened yesterday evening by 6.30pm.
