A MUSEUM is offering free children’s events each Friday during the summer holidays.
Harwich Maritime Museum, which is run by the Harwich Society, is offering ‘school holiday Friday specials’, with all accompanied children admitted for free.
Youngsters can make a boat at the craft sessions and take part in other activities, including spotting the pirate parrot, ringing the ships’ bells, and testing the foghorn and the rescue transmitters, as well as trying on naval uniforms.
Donations for the Maritime Museum are welcome with the now extensively refurbished museum being housed in the old Low Lighthouse.
The Friday specials are from 10am to 4pm on July 26, August 2, August 9, August 16, August 23, and August 30.
The Maritime Museum is also open on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays from 10am to 4pm, with entry costing of £2 for adults, with accompanied children going for free.
The museum has nautical memorabilia, ranging from photographs and paintings to ships and bottles and lighthouse bulbs, and there is also a view of the harbour’s shipping activity from the top floor.
Harwich Town railway station is a five-minute walk from the museum and there is on-street parking close to the museum.
