A DEVLOPER has completed work to provide a new junction, footway and cycle path to Manningtree’s Long Road as part of a new housing estate scheme.

City and Country have completed work on Manningtree’s B1352 Long Road after starting construction this April.

The developer has upgraded the area for pedestrian use as well as providing better access to public transport with a brand-new cycle way being created.

The new pedestrian access and three-metre-wide footway and cycleway are the length of the road, while the accompanying pedestrian crossing “adds an extra element of safety”.

Other improvements to the road include an upgrade of the two existing bus stops providing easier transport for residents going in and out of Manningtree.

Street lighting has been upgraded to improve visibility at night, and the road will also include a new entrance on to the Manningtree Park development, giving residents easier homes access.

City and Country representatives gathered on July 11 to unveil the new road and to celebrate the works being completed on time.

Regional development director Marco Sidoli said: “After a few months of planned works to deliver the essential upgrades to Long Road, as agreed with Essex Highways and the local authority, we are now able to open the new junction.

“The goal has always been to enhance the design, accessibility and biodiversity of Manningtree Park.”

Mr Sidoli added: “Open spaces, which make up nearly a quarter - 22 per cent - of our development, will connect Long Road via a tree-planted streetscape to a new village-style green with a farm shop and café at the heart of our development for the benefit of whole community.”

Once complete, the development will also include a farm shop, café, natural playground and an off-lead dog-walking area.

Homes from the first release are still available, with some properties ready to move into.
