A CAFE run by the Acorn Village charity is opening its doors for weekends after positive feedback from visitors.

The Walled Garden Café, in Clacton Road, Mistley,  will now open at the weekends after feedback from visitors which said they would like the chance to come at weekend.

The café, which used to be open Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, will open for the first weekend on August 3 to 4, and then for subsequent weekends from 9am to 3pm.

The income from the café goes towards supporting adults with learning disabilities, both those that live at 14-acre Acorn site.

People who live in the wider community attend day services and use the therapeutic centre for a wide range of activities and workshops.

Michelle Cook, chief executive at Acorn Village, said: “We are delighted to be able to open The Walled Garden Café at weekends and we hope to see as many people as possible”.

“The Café’s income is used to fund the services we provide at Acorn and so visitors will really be making a difference by enjoying the food and drink. We also hope to be able to raise awareness of Acorn Village through people visiting and learning more about what we do.”

Acorn Village, a registered charity, was launched in 1972 due to the need for a more imaginative approach to the care of adults with learning disabilities based on the principle of ‘people first’.

After a dedicated fundraising campaign, organised by a small group of parents, Acorn Village opened its doors to its first residents in 1975.
