MISTLEY Rugby Club’s popular Pram Race will take place this August Bank Holiday Monday - with entry free of charge.

The event will take place at Furze Hill on August 26 with the gates opening at 2pm, and parking available.

People can bring a picnic or grab lunch from outlets including include pizza, fish and chips, burgers and snacks.

Events will start 3pm with the Children’s Wacky Races for youngsters aged between six and 15, with fancy dress optional.

There will also be other activities for children, including free face painting, bouncy castles, games and a children’s tombola.

The Pram Race will start at 4pm, and teams of two - a 'baby’ in the pram and 'parent' pushing - can join in with any non-motorised four wheeled vehicle.

The route will feature eight pop-up pubs, and teams will have to stop off and visit each pub for a drink.

Registration is by emailing mistleypramrace@gmail.com and those registering by Saturday, August 24, will benefit from a discounted entry price of £15 per person, which entitles them to eight drinks along the route, including beers and cocktails.

Entry for the pram race is £20 on the day and the public can walk the route and visit the pubs too.

The free dog show starts at 5pm, with dogs of all shapes and sizes welcome to strut their stuff and compete in categories including the waggiest tail, best rescue dog and best puppy. 

Local band, Keystone, will finish the event taking to the stage at 6pm.

After a 45-year hiatus, Mistley’s off-road pram race returned last year in May to mark King Charles III’s coronation and moved to Furze Hill where there is more space. 

Charlotte Howell, former chairman of Mistley Parish Council, came up with the idea last year and approached Mistley RUFC.
