A NEW budget-hotel is coming to Harwich as part of a huge £7 million retail park.

Travelodge has confirmed it will be constructing a new hotel in Harwich, with construction on the development having commenced already.

The ‘Harwich Portside’ Travelodge Hotel will be located on the six-acre Stanton Europark site next to Harwich Port and Enterprise Zone.

The 68-room hotel will operate alongside Starbucks, KFC, Howdens and Screwfix and will open in Summer 2025.

The confirmation of the new hotel follows the announcement this month that Burger King will open its first branch in the Stanton Europark, which is accessible from Freshfields Road.

An opening date for Burger King has not been confirmed yet but the new business will create 23 jobs for the area - with applications currently open for two assistant manager roles.

Burney Estates was given permission to build the 68-bed hotel, two drive-through restaurants, ten business units and a 283-space car park at Stanton Europark, Parkeston at the £7m retail park last year.

Travelodge has a long-standing relationship with Burney Group, which developed the Ipswich Central Travelodge, which opened last year, and the Boston Travelodge.

Travelodge is continuing to expand its hotel portfolio in the UK, and has opened five hotels this year, one of which was in Colchester.

The new Harwich site was announced at the same time as a new location in Skegness.

Tony O’Brien, UK development director of Travelodge, said: “Both hotels are located in prime locations of Skegness and Harwich, suitably located for both our business and leisure customers visiting the areas.

“It is a pleasure to be working with the Burney Group again and we are sure that these hotels will perform well for us - creating new jobs and boosting the local economies.

"We are looking forward to opening both in time for summer 2025.”

Daren Burney, from the Burney Group, added: “Both hotels provide real regeneration benefits notwithstanding the economic benefits and job creation to each local area.”
