HARWICH and Dovercourt High School students celebrated their GCSE results today with some amazing individual successes including one student who will now be joining the army while learning a trade.

Student, Ben Hales, will be joining the army and will become an engineer after securing the passes he needed in English and maths.

Ben will join the military college in Colchester in September and then expects to join the army in March.

He said: “Joining the army is something to be proud of.

“It’s got a lot of benefits, and the role I’m choosing gives you a trade meaning its much easier for me I have to go out of the army as I have a trade.”

While Ms Kate Finch, headteacher of the Harwich and Dovercourt High School, said she was very happy that Ben got the grades needed to join the army as an engineer.

To become a soldier in the British Army GCSEs are needed however, for some roles, including engineering, qualifications are required.

People who do not have GCSE passes in English and Maths can gain these qualifications as part of their training.
