A FORMER Harwich mayor is featured in a author's third children's book about a tunnel.
Paul Diggens has written the third instalment in the Tom Tunnel series and this new book features Charlie Powell, the former mayor of Harwich.
Tom Tunnel's Summer is a new adventure about this quaint old railway tunnel in middle England, and Bertie Bat who resides inside Tom Tunnel.
Mr Powel is illustrated as the mayor of the town where Tom Tunnel resides.
In this third adventure, the local air show takes place, however, there is panic when a vintage aircraft almost runs out of fuel.
The aircraft is set to land on Tom Tunnel’s hillside when the local mayor - Charlie Powel - discovers that Tom Tunnel will be 100 years old.
Mr Diggens said: “The inspiration for Tom Tunnel’s Summer actually came on a railway
journey where I was travelling from Manningtree to Newcastle via Ipswich and Peterborough.
"I had a project to route film of the line between Newcastle and Carlisle each way later that say.
"On entering the railway tunnel before Ipswich I started to write ideas in
my railway notebook.
"A passenger across the aisle commented and asked if I was writing my will as I hurriedly scribbled on endless sheets of paper."
Tom Tunnel’s Summer is now available at all good bookshops and via Amazon for £5.99.
