VINTAGE chopper and grifter biker riders raised £600 in one day for Harwich’s The Ark Centre.

On Sunday, a total of twenty-four people set out from The Trafalgar pub in Harwich on vintage chopper and grifter bikes in aid of The Ark Centre.

The bikers visited pubs in Old Harwich including The New Bell Inn and The Swan, and in total £600 was raised.

The family resource centre came under threat last September due to a lack of funding, with the venue needing between £20,000 and £25,000 each month to keep running.

The nursery – which was celebrating its 70th birthday at the time – was saved thanks to an injection of community fundraising.

This included a ‘firewalk’ fundraising challenge where 14 people walked across hot coals raising £3,000.

Businesses now support the centre with The Trafalgar pub making the centre their charity of the year.

Claire Bridges, manager at the Ark Centre, said: “We are so grateful for the community passion in continuing to support The Ark.

“The day was so much fun and really made special by all involved. As a charity we need to keep the fundraising events happening in order for The Ark to care support the local families in Harwich & Dovercourt.”
